'Down and Dirty' Approach To Making A Small "V" Groove

A tricky project to make a shallow "V" groove in a very small and short piece of flat bar, to use as a positioning/location aid for a boring bar or any round tooling in the tool post. Options for setting up rather limited as lathe was only method available. Also, no easy way to have a horizontal plain 45 degree approach for machining with a spindle-mounted shell end mill, and so resorted to vertical slide. Compound set to 45 degrees and cut made in the vertical plain with vertical slide. Awkward, as well as problems clamping this small piece of material and still staying clear of cutting tool. Final "V" width very modest but adequate for most small boring bars. This was part of our early "Gadgets & Gizmos" series.
