Simple Sand Box for Tempering Small Parts

Just 2"x2"x5" in size, using approx 12G black steel plate, this is filled with silver sand and is useful for tempering small parts. Put on a stand over a propane burner, it is quite quick to get up to temperature and retains heat for quite some time - long enough usually to allow reasonable gradual soak cooling - aided if necessary by covering in some weld cloth. It was used most for finishing off small pieces of silver steel/drill rod, after forming and grinding which could leave excessive hardness and so brittleness. Box was roughly welded together - inside are small tack-welded supports for the simple lid.
