4 Way Tool Post Clone Part 1B
| This follows a previous item on cloning a 4 way tool post, that finished up by being abandoned due to slow material removal. Then, an acquisition of a new quick-change tool post pretty much put that project on the back burner! Here however we just tried using a small fly cutter as a means of material removal to see if it had any advantages over previous use of just end mills in the lathe. It works but, again stock removal is tedious and, due to workpiece mounting considerations (inadequate total rigidity etc) max cut per pass is rather limited. This may be worth pursuing over time, though doubt it. |
